Bitmain Launches New Antminer Z11

Cryptocurrency mining giant Bitmain has launched a new miner for the privacy-oriented cryptocurrency Zcash. It claims to have three times as much hashing power as its predecessor.

The Antminer Z11, which comes about ten months after its predecessor the Z9 was released, claims to triple the hashing power available for its target cryptocurrencies. The new Bitmain Antminer Z11 ASIC provides a hashing power of 135 KSol / s for the Equihash algorithm used by Zcash (ZEC) and other cryptocurrencies and is essentially the successor to last year’s Antminer Z9 offering 40 KSol / s and the Antminer Z9 mini offering just 10 KSol / s. The Antminer Z11 is made with advanced Bare Die molding.

Furthermore, Bitmain claims that the Antminer Z11, which adopts a 12-nanometer chip, is more energy efficient due to the new internal circuit structure, which can save 60 percent of electricity costs compared to the Z9.

The move sees Bitmain continue to pursue new products despite challenging market conditions within the mining industry, with some aspects of its operations being previously closed.

Bitmain initially launched the Antminer Z9 at a time when the Zcash community had an ongoing debate about whether the network should be changed to become ASIC – resistant, meaning that the network would prevent the involvement of miners using ASICs, which are generally more powerful than ordinary graphics processing units.

However, at the Zcon0 conference in June last year, members of the Zcash community voted not to prioritize research efforts to change the rules of the Zcash network to make it resistant to ASIC.

Bitmain rolled out it’s the latest offering for SHA256 cryptocurrency algorithms like Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) in February. A new 7-nanometer mining processor called the BM1397 has also been launched by Bitmain, which has been updating its Bitmain miner’s collections. This miner is designed based on the SHA256 algorithm for proof – of – work cryptocurrencies. For example, bitcoin (BTC) and bitcoin cash (BCH) are included.

Bitmain seems to want to offer more transparency to its target market in the light of the debate.

“In order to preserve the values of the Zcash community on security, reliability, and accessibility, Bitmain had previously tweeted real-time updates to ensure greater transparency and will continue to provide shipping updates of the Antminer Z11’s first batch,” said the blog post. These transparency commitments continue to ensure the security, reliability, and accessibility desired by manufacturers to Zcash foundation and the community.
