Ecash creator David Chaum revealed his most recent invention during his keynote address at CoinDesk Consensus Singapore on September 19. Named Elixxir, Chaum claims that it will be the first blockchain to ever be able to meet the needs of consumer-scale messaging and payments.
According to a press release, Elixxir is a blockchain solution which allows fast, secure, and confidential messaging payments at minimal cost. It can scale to hundreds of thousands of transactions per second, and can confirm the delivery of each message and payment within seconds, merely through a simple smartphone app.
Chaum unveiled his brainchild during the said event in Singapore, where he also shared a technical briefing laying out the technology’s “fundamentally different approach and welcoming participation in the Elixxir community,” the press release read.
“It is widely recognized that some fundamental solutions are needed in order for blockchain technology to make the critical leap from store-of-value to consumer-scale payment and messaging. We wanted to have the engineering done and software up and running before announcing our solution to those problems.”
Elixxir is, in a way, the culmination of all of Chaum’s geniuses, including eCash, his pioneering work in pre-bitcoin blockchain, his recent cryptographic architectures incorporating precomputation, and mix networks and multiparty computations.
Chaum is confident of his creation, claiming that it will be able to deliver a fully-scalable and decentralized platform which speed and privacy that he promises to never disappoint.
Father Of Online Privacy
And rightly so, since Chaum was the first to have created blockchain technology in 1982 while he was studying at the University of California Berkeley. He also holds a Ph.D in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, and has taught at NYU Graduate School of Business and the University of California.
His greatest achievement is his creation of digital cash, where the entire cryptocurrency and blockchain technology hinges itself on.
Dubbed the “Father of Online Privacy,” Chaum also birthed many innovations including Perspectiva, Random-Sample Voting, Election Integrity Technology, and Multiparty Computation.
