Approximately one of three Germans wants to invest in cryptocurrency, according to Cointelegraph auf Deutsch. This was determined after a survey done by German bank Postbank on 3,100 Germans from February to March 2018.
More than half of the respondents said they are interested in crypto to enjoy “independence from established financial systems”. The chance of high return attracted more men, 56%, than women, 36%. A third of the respondents cited anonymity as an important consideration.
Six percent of the German population in the 18-34-year-old age group, have already invested in crypto, almost half are curious to invest in cryptocurrency, and 14% are willing to buy crypto in the next 12 months.
In a press release, Dr. Thomas Mangel, Head of Postbank’s Digital Department, said crypto’s popularity was not affected at all by abrupt drops in the price. The reason for that is the shortage of information regarding the opportunities and perils of crypto investment.
“Despite all the fascination, young investors should not lose sight of offers from the established banking system. Anyone who already makes an investment in securities as an investment should certainly not invest in cryptocurrencies because of the high risks involved. Because this type of investment is highly speculative.”
