The Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA) has its newest member — Norfolk Southern, one of the few Class 1 railroads and a premier American transportation company.
According to its “press release”, Norfolk Southern will be joining the group’s initiatives to build standards for the logistics industry utilizing blockchain technology.
The company covers US Eastern Seaboard where it transports coal and intermodal containers as well as maintain Class 1 railroads in the area.
Fred Ehlers, BiTA vice president, stated that establishing blockchain-driven supply chain mechanisms would greatly benefit from the railway’s entry.
BiTA president Chris Burruss echoed the declaration saying that “common blockchain standards that will define the future of freight movement,” are being created by the 250-member alliance. He continued: “Norfolk Southern brings a level of intermodal and rail expertise to the Alliance that will benefit all members and the industry as a whole as we move toward a common framework. We look forward to engaging with them as we move forward.”
